Air Quality Open Data Platform
Worldwide COVID-19 dataset

Share: aqicn.org/data-platform/covid19/

With the COVID-19 spreading out all over the world, the World Air Quality Index project team saw a surge in requests for global data covering the whole world map. As a result, the WAQI project is now providing a new dedicated data-set, updated 3 times a day, and covering about 380 major cities in the world, from Januray 2020 unil now.

The data for each major cities is based on the average (median) of several stations. The data set provides min/max/median and standard deviation for each of the air pollutant species (PM2.5,PM10, Ozone ...) as well as meteorological data (Wind, Temperature, ...). All air pollutant species are converted to the US EPA standard (i.e. no raw concentrations). All dates are UTC based.

If you get any results from your research usign this dataset, please let us know by sending us a message via the data-platform request form, with a link to your research result or article. We will compile a list of all the COVID-19 air quality based research and create a new page for everyone to see.

Contributing or Supporting this Project

✋The World Air Quality project might look like one of those big projects coming from big organizations... but it is actually just a small, but lean, team behind it.

Despite its expensive outreach, the project has never received any financial support from any of NGO nor from any government🌸

The project income comes online advertising, but it is just enough to pay the cloud infrastructure. So, yes, all contributors are having a real job at the same time🙏

Yet, rather than asking for financial support, we prefer asking for contributors who can help with their time. Check the contribute page for more info.

❤️❤️❤️

If you do not have time to contribute, but still would like to help and support our project, what about getting one of our cool GAIA air quality monitoring station? ☀️💨👌

Data Credits

The open data framework would not be possible without the work from the worldwide EPA, which should get the credits for their monitoring programs.

About the Air Quality and Pollution Measurement:

About the Air Quality Levels

AQIAir Pollution LevelHealth ImplicationsCautionary Statement (for PM2.5)
0 - 50 Good Air quality is considered satisfactory, and air pollution poses little or no risk None
51 -100 Moderate Air quality is acceptable; however, for some pollutants there may be a moderate health concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution. Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
101-150 Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups Members of sensitive groups may experience health effects. The general public is not likely to be affected. Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
151-200 Unhealthy Everyone may begin to experience health effects; members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion; everyone else, especially children, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion
201-300 Very Unhealthy Health warnings of emergency conditions. The entire population is more likely to be affected. Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should avoid all outdoor exertion; everyone else, especially children, should limit outdoor exertion.
300+ Hazardous Health alert: everyone may experience more serious health effects Everyone should avoid all outdoor exertion
